The Armor of Shiva - Shiva Kavacham

by Moksha Gyan

/

about

Invoking the Five Letters of the Shiva Panchakshari Mantra Namah Shivaya, along with Om, and the 3 Letters of A U M, as a Protective and Siddhi granting Armor.

lyrics

In Sanskrit, the Shiva Kavacham translation in English is:

May Om protect the face. The syllable Na will protect the ears. Ma protect at the top of the head/crown. The syllable Si(Shi) protect residing in the heart. Vaa protect my eyes, and Ya protect the arms. May A protect my face/mouth, the source of U protect my heart. Ma protect the back, and the Five Letters (Na Ma Si Vaa Ya) protect everywhere.

This is the explanation oh Goddess (Shiva speaking to Parvati in the scripture addressing this mantra) of the Armor which bestows all siddhis (perfections, attainments, or powers). That Name which protects the three worlds, and gives all siddhis.

The Shiva Kavacham is repeated 3 times. Before and after the Armor of Shiva`s five letter mantra, is the mantra Om Namo Gurudeva Mahauinidraya, which translates to Om and salutations to Guru/God King of Sages. Lastly a mantra prayer from the Haidkhandeshvari Sapta Shati asking for Divine Mother`s protection. This Divine Mother Shakti mantra is translated Sri Vishnu Datta Shatriji in the Haidhakhandeshvari Sapta Shati text as: High waves of fear fill this ocean of life. The night of delusion has left me bewildered. I pray to Thee Mother Durge, be pleased, Protect and Save me, O Mother, Queen of the World!

The track completes with: Jai Maha Maya Jagad Ambe Ma Ki Jai: Victory! Great Mother of all Appearences, Mother of the Universe, Ma Victory to You!

Because all these Divine Energies/Deities make up the fullness of our Beings, saying Victory to You (Ki Jai) is something like let That Power be brought forth and Victorious Within the Field of our Awareness and Life. In order for our Divinity to overcome, or step into the foreground, while our weaknesses, inadequacies, or inner enemies move back no longer a primary focus of our attention and energy.

Stay Blessed!
